This second edition contains significant new material, notably the addition of a detailed case study and examples of six typical facilitation sessions.“John and Paul provide a quick route to a practical understanding of facilitation. This book should be compulsory reading for all managers handling change.” Teresa Kilmartin, Executive Manager Training & Development, Irish Life Assurance plc“This book is the perfect illustration of what facilitation is all about – making things easy. Reflecting on the methods, skills and techniques described, it is easy to understand what it takes to become a skilled facilitator.     The next step in phase 1 is to define the SMART (specific; measurable; attainable;
    relevant; time-bound) objective and, in agreement with the
    sponsor/client, the format of the output expected. Given
    the current situation, what are we aiming to achieve,
    realistically speaking, in the session?
    A very useful way to formulate a session objective
    is to start with:
    ‘By the end of this session’…..and then use
    the future perfect tense to define what willhave happened and what the output will
    look like.
    Example:
    By the end of this session we will have produced
    (on one flip chart page) a five point action plan on
    how to improve XYZ.
