This book takes place in the Gila National Forest, the first national park designated as a wilderness in the United States. In 2019, the Park Service will begin the process of deciding whether to dam the Gila River, which travels through the park. Philip explains his opposition to this plan and details the damage it would cause to this pristine forest. Philip will be a leading authority media turns to as the debate heats up. He’s a frequent speaker at Wilderness and Sierra Club events. After the 2018 fire season (September), he wants to speak against the proposed dam as much as possible at such events and bookstores, using his new book as a starting point.
