French historian Emmanuel Bernard Le Roy Ladurie was primarily concerned with Languedoc under the Ancien régime, and more specifically with the history of the peasantry. His work was mostly centered on the region. Le Roy Ladurie, who is widely recognized as one of the most influential historians in France, has been referred to as the “rock star of the medievalists” and the “standard-bearer” of the third generation of the Annales school. He is also renowned for his contributions to the field of social history.
