Sometimes a difficult childhood can help build a strong character within you, as you don’t need others’ approval. It can help you become more self-sufficient and independent, allowing you to find your own direction without relying on other people. It makes you aware of what others are experiencing and develops your compassion — but it can also be a lonely place.
So, is your circle of conditioning still going around? The beautiful thing about letting go is that it creates the space for magical new things to flow into your life that are more fully aligned with the person that you are now, are becoming, or wish to become. Say goodbye to it by acknowledging it and learning from it — but it’s time to move on.

If it is more serious, such as abuse or bullying, then forgive that person because they probably knew no better. They might well have been abused or bullied themselves; you often find that someone who bullies has a very unhappy home life themselves. They are not in control of their own situation, so they want to control you.

It is true that words, actions or beliefs can hurt; sometimes words said to you can be very cruel. But often, words come out of a person’s mouth before they think! If at the time you were only a child, maybe that person was wrong; they should have been more understanding to you — not the other way around.

Have you ever dreamed of buying something, gone and bought it, and then suddenly you wanted even more because it hadn’t given you what you thought it would?
    Money
It can buy you a house — but never a home
It can buy you a clock — but not time
It can buy you a position — but not respect
It can buy you a bed — but not sleep
It can buy you a book — but not knowledge
It can buy you medicines — but not health
It can buy you acquaintances — but never friends
It can buy you blood — but not life
It can buy you sex — but not love
    — Chinese Proverb

many people feel that they need to have everything: a bigger house, more money … but money can not buy happiness. What these people are doing is looking to the outside world to give them happiness — and it can only be found deep within yourself, in your core being.

What you do affects others around you too, but often you don’t realise it. If you can learn not to be so selfish, you can help others who have lives less fortunate than your own.

have to say that I could see all this in others but not in myself. Many of the wonderful people I have met who have brilliant careers now have been self-made, former drop-outs with not a qualification to their name. What they all possess, which I have too, are confidence and determination.

your experiences in life have taught you so much and are far more powerful than any qualification on a piece of paper. You speak and teach from your heart and with such passion. Some people who have studied for years have no depth to their soul like you.

My trouble was that I talked too much, both in and out of class. I am also the sort of person who will do anything for anyone if you ask me — but if you tell me to do it, a chill runs up my spine and I rebel. I think this is where I learned to be an individual, strong person; otherwise I would have floundered.
