His writing about books, authors, and technology is published widely, and he has served on the board of the National Book Critics Circle. He lives in Brooklyn, New York, with his wife and children.

He works at Publishers Weekly and serves as an editor for the Literary Review.

His poems have appeared in the New Yorker, the Nation, the Paris Review, the Best American Poetry, and many other publications.
