Arizona Tape is a British author known for her urban fantasy and paranormal romance novels featuring queer protagonists. She writes the stories she wishes were available to her when she was younger, focusing on themes of acceptance and romance.
Born in the UK, Tape grew up passionate about storytelling. As a child, she created stick-figure comics and wrote short stories. During her university years, she began using writing as an emotional outlet. This creative process eventually led to her first published book, The Love Pill (2016). From then on, she became deeply committed to writing, publishing twenty books in her first two years as an author.
Her popular Afterlife Academy series begins with Valkyrie 101 (2023). The series follows Ylva, a sheltered young woman training to become a Valkyrie who guides human souls to the afterlife. The story incorporates mythology, finding family, and a Sapphic romance between roommates. "Ylva starts narrow-minded," Tape explained in an interview, "but as she joins the Academy, she realises there's a lot to love about people different from her." The series consists of six books and two tie-in stories.
Another notable work is Burden of Hecate (2023), part of the Queens of Olympus series. The novel reimagines Greek mythology with a workplace romance between Hecate, the goddess of witchcraft, and Ariana, a priestess of Zeus. Struggling with the loss of her magical powers, Hecate faces increasing pressure to step down, while Ariana must decide whether to stand up for Hecate or follow the orders of her temple.
Tape's forthcoming book, Valkyrie 102, continues Ylva's journey, further exploring mythology and the challenges of being an afterlife assistant. Her standalone, Not Today, offers a more personal narrative inspired by her experiences as a student navigating emotional struggles within the LGBTQ+ community.
"I hope I never run out of stories to write," said Tape.
Arizona Tape currently lives in the UK with her girlfriend and their dog. When not writing, she enjoys cooking, drawing, painting, and playing the piano and harp. She also has a keen interest in manga, anime, and Japanese culture and dreams of visiting Japan.
