David Feintuch

David Feintuch was an American science fiction and fantasy author. He is best known for the Rodrigo of Caledon and Seafort Saga series. In 1996 Feintuch won John W. Campbell Award in the category the Best New Writer of the Science Fiction genre.

David Feintuch was born in New York City and brought up in Yonkers. He had been an avid library visitor since childhood and began writing unpublished stories when he was young.

Feintuch earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Earlham College in Richmond and followed it up with a law degree from Harvard Law School.

After graduating in 1970, Feintuch began working as a lawyer and an art dealer. He came to writing late, although he wrote his first novel in Law School but never submitted it for publication.

He published Midshipman's Hope in 1994. It was his debut and the first in the seven-book series, The Seafort Saga, which features Nicholas Seafort as the protagonist. The series is a military space opera set in a future where Christianity dominates human society.

In 1996, at fifty, he won the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer from the World Science Fiction Society. Books from The Seafort Saga have been translated into Russian, German, Japanese, Spanish, and Czech.

He later moved on to the fantasy genre with his Rodrigo of Caledon series, including The Still (1997) and The King (2002).

Just before his death, David Feintuch had announced on his personal website that he was working on an 8th book called Galahad’s Hope.

Feintuch got divorced in 1994. However, at the time of his death in 2006, his wife, Leianne, and his five children were with him.

Michigan State University recognized Feintuch's literary works in its Michigan Writers' Series.
